Manoora, Cairns is the third largest suburb of Cairns, with a population of 5604. It is located quite centrally in the City of Cairns, adjacent to Edge Hill, Manunda and Mooroobool. It also has a considerable amount of commercial activity, which attracts local residents and people from across the City. Manoora is centrally located about 13mins drive west of Cairns CBD.
There are a number of medical practitioners in Manoora, including a dedicated indigenous health centre. The closest hospital is Cairns Base Hospital, about 5-7mins drive west. Manoora has access to the broad spectrum of medical, dental and pathology services in Cairns CBD.
Manoora has a number of community services and facilities located in the area. These are local, district and metropolitan level facilities and services, including Jensen Street Park. The closest library is in the adjacent suburb of Manunda.
There is a small newly built Piccones Shopping Village in Manoora with groceries, post office, a tavern and various specialty shops. There are also a number of takeaway food outlets, a bottleshop and various trades and services. The closest major shopping centre is DFO in Westcourt and Cairns Central in the city centre.
There are a number of child care centres in Manoora as well as in the adjacent suburbs of Manunda and Mooroobool.
There are no schools in Manoora, but the adjacent suburb of Manunda and Bungalow offer state primary schools, Trinity Bay State High School is also in Manunda, as is the Catholic primary school, St Francis Xavier’s. Cairns High State School is also about 10mins drive away.
Sunbus provides public transport service to the area. There are some streets in Manoora that will not be serviced by taxis due to safety issues, check in advance.
