Kewarra Beach is one of the Cairns northern beaches, approximately 20 kilometres north of the CBD. It is a residential suburb, with some tourism development, and other commercial activities occurring in the suburb to support the local residents. There is a high proportion of recent suburban development at Kewarra, with little housing diversity. It is close to the Paradise Palms Country Club, which offers a number of sport and recreation facilities to the broader public. Kewarra Beach is about 29mins drive north from Cairns CBD.
The population of Kewarra consists mainly of families. Beachfront properties are highly sought and highly priced. There is an area of older homes with middle income families and retirees and a larger area of lower-income families. Recent development has seen the growth of new ‘estates’ with a high-income demographic.
There is a general practitioner in Kewarra Beach but major medical, dental and pathology services can be found in Smithfield, about 10mins drive south. The closest hospital is Cairns Base Hospital, about 20mins drive south.
Kewarra Beach doesn’t have many community facilities outside of two privately run churches and a shopping hub. The nearest library and public swimming pool can be found at Smithfield, about 10mins drive south.
There is a convenience store and some specialty stores and a takeaway food outlet in Kewarra Beach. The nearest supermarkets are at Trinity Beach, about 5mins drive south, and Clifton Beach, about 10mins drive north. The closest major shopping centre is at Smithfield, about 10mins drive south.
There is a child care centre in Kewarra Beach. There are other child care options in surrounding suburbs like Trinity Beach, Clifton Beach and Smithfield.
Trinity Anglican School has a primary campus and chapel at Kewarra Beach. There is also an English Language School. The adjacent suburb of Trinity Beach has a primary state school that offers Prep classes. The nearest high school is at Smithfield and there is a Catholic primary school at Trinity Park. All are within 10mins drive from Kewarra Beach.
Sunbus provides a public transport to the area and taxis are available.
